Liz is excited to announce. that her second collection of poetry, When Our World Was Whole, has been published by Kelsey Press. It's a collection of 65 accessible poems written from a post WWII childhood in England, immigration and belonging, a glance at patriarchy and the wonders and fragility of the natural world.
Elizabeth Weir grew up in England and, in Miss Dyson’s high school class, she read James Elroy Flecker’s “Old Ships.” The poet’s use of imagery burned pictures on the screen of Weir’s mind, and she stumbled upon Louis McNiece and Stephen Spender, both plumbing the unpredictability of the world. Coming to this country, she found Robert Frost, Mary Oliver and Ted Kooser, and an empty sheet of paper posed an invitation to her pencil that she could no longer resist.
Weir trained as a nurse and worked in London, Cape Town and in Minneapolis. In the Twin Cities, she wrote for local newspapers, reviewed theater in the Twin Cities for talkinbroadway.com and served on her city council, becoming the mayor. North Star Press of St. Cloud published her first book of poetry, High on Table Mountain, which was nominated for the 2017 Midwest Book Award.
