I'll bet you are not aware of the greatest tragedy in maritime history. It took place during the end of World War II. This story follows four young adults who are among the thousands of desperate refugees who flock to the coast in the midst of the Soviet advance vying for passage aboard the "Wilhelm Gustloff", a ship that promises safety and freedom. So well told!
This page turner is a tale of scandal, shame and suspense as a bachelor party goes terribly wrong! Another riveting novel from a great storyteller.
Michael Perry makes me laugh out loud and not many writers do, unfortunately. This time he has fictionalized all those crazy loveable people from his early non-fiction books on rural life in Wisconsin. On Christmas eve Harley Jackson's holstein cow gives birth to a calf with the face of Jesus on it's side. And while Harley exclaims, "well, thats trouble," it's really where the fun begins. Read, laugh and enjoy!
Alice Hoffman, known for her beautiful descriptive language in her adult books has written her first book for 9 to 12 year old girls. It is magical and a delight. Hoffman has written a spellbinding story that deals with a young girl (Twig) finding friendship, love and acceptance for herself and her family, despite the curse of having sons who grow wings! I found myself cheering for those night fliers.
Although extremely different personalities these two made a forty year political marriage that took them to the height of achievements.
